Safety is vitally important to every member of the UVA community. Take responsibility for your safety and the well-being of others in your community with the new Student Safety Guide. The Student Safety Guide was distributed to all first-year students when they arrived at UVA.  A companion guide for off-Grounds students is being planned for later this fall. 

Sales Tax Holiday/Tax-Free Weekend, Aug. 5-7, Offers Savings on Emergency Supplies

The Commonwealth of Virginia has combined its three sales tax holidays into one three-day tax-free weekend from August 5 through August 7.  During this weekend, customers save state sales and use tax on qualifying items, including hurricane and emergency preparedness supplies. Tax-exempt days offer the perfect opportunity to ensure that your disaster supply kit is up to date. 

UVA To Test Emergency Notification System

UVA will test all components of its emergency notification system components on Tuesday, June 21, between approximately 10:50 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.  The test will include the siren/public address system, text messaging, e-mail, LED and LCD screens, Health System paging system, Alertus desktop messaging, UVA homepage, and UVA Emergency home page. No action is required on your part during the test.

New Public Safety Substation Holds Open House, Feb 3, from 10-2 pm

The UVA Police Department invites the public to tour the new public safety substation on The Corner, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The substation is located at 1413 University Ave,  (the former location of the Freeman-Victorius Framing Shop). At the open house, the public can tour behind-the-scenes spaces and meet representatives from the University Police Department (UPD) and the UVA Ambassador program.  Light refreshments will be served.
