The University will test all components of its emergency notification system on Tuesday, January 31, between approximately 10:50 and 11:10 a.m. The test will include the siren/public address system, text messaging, email, LED and LCD screens, Alertus desktop messaging, UVA home page, and UVA Emergency page. When the test is completed, an "all clear" will be issued.
What to Expect during the Test — approximately 10:50 a.m.
- At 10:50 a.m., a siren followed by a public address message: "This is a test of the UVA emergency notification system. This is a test" will be broadcast. (Preview the sounds of the siren and all-clear horn.)
- Persons who are signed up for UVA Alerts text messaging system and/or e-mail will receive a test message.
- Persons with a UVA email account will receive a test message.
- Persons in a large classroom may hear a tone and see the message on an LED screen; those persons in a common area may see the message on an LCD screen.
- Persons who carry a Simon In-house pager will receive a test message.
- Persons on their computer who are connected to the UVA network AND have installed Alertus desktop messaging will receive a pop-up test message.
- The UVA home page and UVA Emergency home page will display a test message.
The "All Clear" — approximately 11:10 a.m.
- The siren will sound with three blasts followed by the message: "This concludes the test of the UVA emergency notification system."
- Text messaging, email, Simon In-house pagers, LEDs, LCDs, the UVA home page and the UVA Emergency page will also display the "all clear" message.
