UVA To Test Emergency Notification System

UVA will test all components of its emergency notification system components on Tuesday, June 21, between approximately 10:50 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.  The test will include the siren/public address system, text messaging, e-mail, LED and LCD screens, Health System paging system, Alertus desktop messaging, UVA homepage, and UVA Emergency home page. No action is required on your part during the test. When the test is completed, an "all clear" will be issued. 

 

What You Can Expect During the Test - @ approximately 10:50 a.m.

• If you are outside, you may hear a siren followed by a public address message:  "This is a test of the UVA emergency notification system. This is a test."  (You can preview the sounds of the siren and all-clear horn.)

• If you have signed up for UVA Alerts text messaging system and/or e-mail, you will receive a test message. If you have not signed up for UVA. Alerts, please sign up for UVA Alerts now.

• If you have a UVA e-mail account, you will receive a test message.

• If you are in a large classroom, you may hear a tone and see the message on an LED screen; if you are in a common area, you may see the message on an LCD screen.

• If you carry a Simon In-house pager, you will receive a test message.

• If your computer is on and connected to the UVA network AND you have installed Alertus desktop messaging, you will receive a pop-up test message. If you have not installed Alertus, please install desktop messaging now.

• If you are on the UVA home page or UVA Emergency home page, you will see a pop-up test message.

 

The "All Clear"  - @ approximately 11:10 a.m.

• The siren will sound with three blasts followed by the message: "This concludes the test of the UVA emergency notification system."

• Text messaging, e-mail, Simon In-house pagers, LEDs, LCDs, and the Home Page will also display the "all clear" message.
