Your Hands Could Save a Life

University of Virginia Dean of Students Allen Groves is known and loved by students for giving high fives around Grounds. Dean Groves also knows that those same hands could help save a life. Each year, approximately 400,000 Americans suffer a sudden cardiac arrest -- meaning their heart suddenly stops beating. Without quick recognition and treatment, the odds of surviving this type of event are slim. However, when a bystander intervenes by providing high quality chest compressions (CPR), and applies an automated external defibrillator (AED), chances of survival increase to over 50%. Learn what to do if you see a person collapse or become unconscious, and find out how your hands are good for high fives and more.
